BONN, Germany — Shortening the treatment interval time for patients receiving photodynamic therapy does not result in any serious side effects, but it does not appear to improve upon the results shown in the TAP study, according to researchers here.

N. Eter and colleagues with University Eye Clinic treated 22 eyes according to the dose regimen specified in the TAP study. After the first photodynamic therapy (PDT) treatment, the choroidal neovascularization (CNV) remained permanently closed in 14% of the eyes. Repeating the treatment 6 weeks later did not lead to permanent closing of more CNVs or a diminished size at 3 months. Visual acuity was not affected by early re-treatment.

The study is published in the April issue of Der Ophthalmologe.
