BERLIN Implementing a testing program based on group sequential diagnostics may be both a cost-effective and efficient means to diagnose glaucoma, a large study conducted here found.
Andrea Stroux and colleagues used a sequential diagnostic strategy on 595 eyes of 310 patients previously diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma and on 419 eyes from 213 control subjects.
In the sample, 62% of the eyes could be classified as either glaucomatous or non-glaucomatous using a sequential 15-minute two-step program. Overall, diagnosticians were able to classify patients 13.6% faster with no loss of diagnostic accuracy.
The study is published in the March issue of Graefes Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.
