Second 25-gauge vitrectomy system to enter the market
NEW YORK Physicians visiting the Alcon booth here at the American Society of Retinal Specialists annual meeting could preview a new 25-gauge vitrectomy system for the Accurus Surgical System. The system has completed the development stage and will be entering into field verification in the next few weeks, according to an Alcon representative.
According to company materials, the 25-gauge technology is directly connected to the Accurus, giving the surgeon instantaneous infusion and pressure control; effective response time; 3-D technology that allows the surgeon to simultaneously control vacuum and cut rate; and a pneumatic, light-weight probe.
According to an Alcon representative, the company already has a 25-gauge vitrectomy technology through a cooperative agreement to market a system from DORC Ophthalmics.
