Schwind launches new presbyopia-correcting software for excimer laser
BARCELONA Schwind eye-tech-solutions launched its PresbyMax presbyopia-correcting software for use with the Amaris excimer laser system and announced promising 1-month clinical results from the treatment.
According to a press release here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, the PresbyMax software delivers bi-aspheric multifocal ablation profiles able to treat emmetropic, myopic, hyperopic and astigmatic patients.
"The central development goal of the PresbyMax was to provide the first systemic and scientifically based approach for the correction of presbyopia with excimer laser surgery," Jorge L. Alió, MD, PhD, said in the release.
The company also released 1-month results of 72 treated eyes 22 myopes, 36 hyperopes and 14 emmetropes. The study showed 97% of treated eyes achieved far vision of 20/32 or better and uncorrected near vision average of J2.
In all, 92% of eyes achieved their planned refractive result, the release said.
