Relationship between stress level, acute anterior uveitis recurrence seen in study
Recurrence of acute anterior uveitis appears to be related to patients' stress levels, according to a study by researchers in Scotland.
Zia I. Carrim, MD, ChB, and colleagues administered the General Health Questionnaire to 42 patients with acute anterior uveitis and 25 healthy controls.
The researchers found that the uveitic patients had significantly higher scores on the health questionnaire than controls (P = 0.01). Among 25 uveitic patients who completed a follow-up survey, uveitis had resolved in 13 and recurred in 12 patients, and these 12 patients had higher scores on the questionnaire than those who had resolved (P = .02). Researchers also observed a significant fall in scores for patients with resolved uveitis (P = .004), according to the study authors.
The study is published in the December issue of Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica.
