Public health program for infant pediatric eye exams launched

A public health care program designed to provide comprehensive eye exams to infants in the first year of life is being launched with a publicity campaign this month.

Former President Jimmy Carter will be a spokesman for the program, called InfantSee, according to a press release. The effort is jointly sponsored by the American Optometric Association and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.

Through InfantSee, optometrists will provide no-cost, one-time comprehensive eye exams to infants in the first year of life, regardless of the patient’s family’s income.

Mr. Carter is the honorary national chairman and spokesman for the program; he will be featured in public service announcements urging parents to take advantage of the program and discussing his own experiences with his grandchildren’s eye problems.
