Perimetry device to detect, manage AMD to launch in U.S. in fall

DUBLIN, Calif. — Carl Zeiss Meditec plans to introduce a perimetry device for the detection and management of age-related macular degeneration to the U.S. market this fall and Europe and Asia “sometime afterwards,” according to a press release.

According to the company, clinical studies showed the machine to be more than twice as likely to detect the presence of age-related macular degeneration as the current standard diagnostic, the Amsler grid. This device uses hyperacuity to “painlessly and non-invasively detect the retinal lesions from AMD” that cause central vision loss, according to Carl Zeiss Meditec.

Tel Aviv-based Notal Vision developed the technology.
