Osteopontin plays role in chronic conjunctival allergic diseases
YOKOHAMA, Japan Elevated levels of osteopontin in tear fluid may play a role in chronic conjunctival allergic diseases, according to a study.
Researchers here measured the level of osteopontin in tears using samples from patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC) or allergic conjunctivitis and from control subjects. Osteopontin tear levels were significantly higher in both VKC and AKC patients compared with either allergic conjunctivitis or control patients.
