MELBOURNE, Australia — Orbital hemorrhage is a potential yet rare complication of alloplastic orbital implants, according to a small case series.

Researchers here retrospectively reviewed the files of patients undergoing surgical repair of orbital wall fractures or anophthalmic enophthalmos with alloplastic implants at two oculoplastic surgery practices.

The researchers identified 4 cases of orbital hemorrhage occurring 5 to 18 years after surgery. Recurrent hemorrhage was noted in one case.

Their report is published in the October issue of Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology.
