Optonol launches two microincisional blades for use with Ex-PRESS glaucoma device

SAN FRANCISCO — Optonol Inc. has announced the release of two new sapphire microincisional glaucoma blades intended for use with its Ex-PRESS glaucoma mini shunt, according to a press release from the company.

Designed to protect the anterior chamber during blade removal, the reusable sapphire blades, called S3, are capable of creating nearly self-sealing, reproducible pre-incisions for implanting R or P model Ex-PRESS devices, according to the announcement here at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting. In addition, the blades are capable of immediate adherence to the contour of the Ex-PRESS lumen allowing for more predictable outflow.
