Ophthalmic viscosurgical device receives CE mark

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Healon EndoCoat ophthalmic viscosurgical device has received the European CE mark, according to a press release from Abbott Medical Optics.

The dispersive OVD has a low molecular weight and is designed as a surgical aid in cataract extraction, IOL implantation, corneal transplantation and glaucoma filtration surgery. The clear, viscous formula coats the eye in a protective layer, and the EndoCoat delivery system includes a smaller, 25-gauge cannula with guard.

The device is available in Europe, Canada and New Zealand and is currently under review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

AMO will be automatically transitioning customers who receive regular shipments of Vitrax II OVD to Healon EndoCoat OVD, according to the release.
