Ophthalmic Imaging Systems' subsidiary acquires the assets of AcerMed

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Ophthalmic Imaging Systems has acquired all assets of AcerMed, an electronic medical record and medical practice management software developer, OIS announced in a press release.

The acquisition, which received approval from the California Central Bankruptcy Court, was executed under the auspices of Abraxas Medical Solutions, a newly established OIS subsidiary.

In an effort to expand Abraxas' operations to accommodate the acquisition of AcerMed, OIS expects expenditures of about $2 million in 2008.

"This acquisition allows us to broaden our reach into new markets beyond our current offering of informatics platforms to ophthalmologists," Gil Allon, chief executive officer of OIS, said in the release.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
