NEW YORK — Lighthouse International is offering an online glaucoma test free of charge through Feb. 22.

The Food and Drug Administration-approved test will be administered without charge in an effort to raise awareness about low vision, the organization said in a press release.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide, and “early detection is key,” the press release from Lighthouse said.

The Peristat test takes 3 minutes to complete, according to the press release. Eye care professionals evaluate the responses and results are mailed to participants within 24 hours. According to the release, clinical studies show the test’s screening accuracy to be around 90%.

“If results show that glaucoma is a possibility, participants will be asked to see an eye care specialist,” the release said.

The test can be found at www.lighthouse.org/glaucoma. After Feb. 22, the fee for the test will be $15.
