Olopatadine provides better comfort than placebo to contact lens wearers with signs and symptoms of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, according to a study.

Miguel Brodsky, MD, and colleagues tested the comfort of olopatadine in a double-masked controlled study. They randomized CL-wearing subjects with a history of allergic conjunctivitis to receive either olopatadine or placebo bilaterally. Allergen challenge was performed 10 minutes after CL insertion

After medication instillation, after lens insertion and at time points from 1 to 10 minutes after allergen challenge, self-reported ocular comfort was statistically significantly superior in people who received olopatadine, compared to those who received placebo.

The study is published in Eye & Contact Lens: Science and Clinical Practice.
