BARCELONA — Oertli Instrumente AG launched its new pharo combined surgical platform for cataract and vitrectomy procedures, the company announced here at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.
The unit is available as a combined cataract surgery and vitrectomy system or as a phacoemulsification system only with the capability of upgrading to the vitrectomy system in the field, according to Oertli's head of marketing, Thomas Bosshard.
According to company literature, the machine is able to perform coaxial microincision surgery with Oertli's easyPhaco technology or minimally invasive pars plana vitrectomy in the posterior segment with 20-, 23- and 25-gauge needles. The device features a peristaltic pump and a "Good Light" light source. The pneumatically driven vitrector cuts at 3,000 cuts per minute. Surgeons control the device with a dual-linear foot pedal, and the device can be programmed for up to 50 surgeons.
The device has been launched worldwide, except in the United States and Japan, according to Mr. Bosshard.
