SINGAPORE — Ocular lubricity is an overlooked factor in eye surface health that may provide new opportunities for the use of gel-forming polymers, according to an ophthalmologist speaking here.
During an Alcon-sponsored symposium on ocular surface health held during the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology meeting, Michael Lemp, MD, described new concepts that help ophthalmologists to better treat dry eye.
“We must look for agents to stabilize the tear film and protect the ocular surface,” Dr. Lemp said.
Cellular genetics studies are only one novel approach that is currently being studied, he said.
