MINNEAPOLIS — Notal Vision announced the sale of its Foresee PHP age-related macular degeneration monitoring product to Reichert Ophthalmic Instruments.

Effective immediately, Reichert will become the warranty and service provider for all new Foresee PHP customers and will begin handling pre-existing accounts Nov. 16. Sightpath Medical will continue to handle service and support functions until then, according to a Sightpath Medical press release.

The sale will allow Notal Vision to devote its time and resources to home-based PHP. Sightpath Medical will distribute home-based PHP, the release said.

"Sightpath Medical and Reichert are working together to ensure a smooth transition for our Foresee PHP customers," Jim Tiffany, president and chief operating officer of Sightpath Medical and its parent company, TLC Vision Corp., said in the release. "Both Sightpath Medical and Reichert are confident in and committed to PHP technology, and we at Sightpath Medical are focused on bringing that technology into patients' homes."

PHP, invented in 2001 by Notal Vision, is designed to aid the monitoring of patients converting from dry AMD to wet AMD.

Notal Vision and Sightpath Medical demonstrated home-based PHP at the joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology. The home-based service is scheduled for launch in 2010, the release said.
