No higher-order changes detected after Nidek microkeratome cut

Creating a LASIK flap with the Nidek MK-2000 microkeratome did not induce changes in higher-order aberrations in a prospective study.

David Zadok and colleagues studied the changes in aberrations induced by flap creation in 15 patients scheduled to undergo LASIK. A nasal hinge was created with the Nidek MD-2000 microkeratome and then replaced without performing laser ablation. Ocular aberrations were measured before and 1 week after the microkeratome cut.

The root mean square wavefront errors of the third-order to sixth-order aberrations were not significantly altered at 1 week compared with preoperative values.

The study is published in the August issue of American Journal of Ophthalmology.
