Nike MaxSight daily wear lens granted FDA approval

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A “sport-tinted” contact lens designed to aid visual performance in athletic settings has received U.S. marketing clearance, according to the marketer.

Bausch & Lomb’s Nike MaxSight (polymacon) Sport-Tinted Contact Lens is indicated for daily wear for the correction of refractive myopia and hyperopia, according to a B&L press release. The Nike MaxSight “selectively filters specific wavelengths of light within the visible spectrum to enhance key visual elements such as a ball or background while reducing distracting sun glare during various outdoor sporting activities,” the B&L release stated.

Nike and B&L partnered 3 years ago to develop the lens. Nike will market the lens to consumers while B&L will manufacture and market the lens to eye care professionals.

The Nike MaxSight will launch in both the United States and Europe in late summer in two tints: gray-green, designed for sports played in bright sunlight, and amber, designed for “fast-moving ball sports,” such as soccer, tennis, baseball and softball, played in variable light.
