Nidek gains U.S. approval for perimetry/fundus imaging device

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A combination perimetry and fundus imaging device has been granted U.S. regulatory approval, according to Nidek executives. The MP-1 Micro Perimeter will be introduced in the United States for the retina and glaucoma markets.

The MP-1 Micro Perimeter features combined perimetry and fundus imaging; computerized microperimetry; 45-degree non-mydriatic digital fundus photography; high-speed, online image tracking; quantitative assessment of fixation; mapping of scotomas; selectable built-in or custom perimetry programs and fully automated examinations with selected target strategies, said Hideo Ozawa, Nidek’s founder and president.

Mr. Ozawa believes the device could be used in assisting the diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization, diabetic retinopathy, maculopathies and scotomas, to name a few.
