New xenon light to be available for Accurus
ANAHEIM, Calif. Alcon is planning to introduce a brighter light for its Accurus vitrectomy unit in January, according to a surgeon speaking here.
David Chow, MD, explained that this new light is whiter than other vitrectomy light sources, with a light-blue tinge, and it is safe, with filters for light in the range of 420 nm to 680 nm.
Safety is not a concern with this product, said Dr. Chow, in a presentation at the Alcon exhibit during the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.
He explained that the increased brightness provides unique opportunities for the surgeon for the creation of chandeliers, for 25-gauge illumination and for improvement of wide-field illumination.
