SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Patients with Brachmann-de Lange syndrome may also have aniridia and congenital glaucoma. These abnormalities have been previously unreported in association with the syndrome, according to one study.

W. Barry Lee, MD, and others here at the University of California reported on a newborn who presented 2 days after birth with bilateral cloudy corneas, photophobia and epiphora. At 5.5 years of age, the child had a clear graft in the right eye and graft failure in the left. A review of the syndrome found an additional 43 patients with ocular surface and anterior segment findings. The most common of these findings were conjunctivitis, blepharitis, microcornea and corectopia.

The study is published in the February issue of Cornea.
