New member societies join World Glaucoma Association

BOSTON — Numerous glaucoma societies from countries around the world have joined the World Glaucoma Association since the association's last congress 2 years ago and attended this year's congress.

The country societies that have joined since 2007 include Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Iran, Kenya, Latvia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia and Zambia, according to Tarek Shaarawy, MD, who announced the new additions at the World Glaucoma Congress here.

Societies that the association is "in dialogue with" include Algeria, Central American Republic, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Sudan, Salvador and Venezuela. Countries that are looking to form glaucoma societies are Bolivia, Cuba, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Vietnam.

In addition, the World Glaucoma Association now provides model bylaws from established societies and, in the last 2 years, has revised membership criteria.
