New laser may save time, increase accuracy, study suggests
NEW YORK Early clinical results with the Alcon LADAR6000 excimer laser system suggest patients can achieve postoperative uncorrected visual acuities that are better than their preoperative best corrected visual acuities, according to a surgeon speaking here.
At the OSN New York Symposium, Michael Endl, MD, presented his early results using the newest version of the Alcon refractive laser to treat myopia.
According to Dr. Endl, 89 eyes treated since June had improved visual acuities at 1 day, 1 week and 6 weeks' follow-up visits. At 1 week, 57.9% of eyes had a UCVA at least equal to their preoperative BCVA.
"What I like most about it is that there is less white light illumination, and you have a better view of the patient in scope," he said. "That is a benefit of the infrared registration."
The new console has a flexible design, and the laser features a 50% faster repetition rate than the previous model. It also features new software prompting for enhancing patient flow and efficiency, he added.
