NEI launches ophthalmic pathology collection

BETHESDA, Md. — An online resource of clinical ophthalmic cases and their pathology is now available from the National Eye Institute, the agency announced.

The David G. Cogan Ophthalmic Pathology Collection “will serve as a critical component to further our understanding of eye diseases and their treatments,” said Paul A. Sieving, MD, PhD, NEI director, in a press release. The collection comprises 1,040 cases and 3,000 slides, the NEI said in the press release. The clinical descriptions and photographs were collected by Dr. Cogan during his career as both a clinical and research ophthalmologist, the NEI stated.

The collection can be found at http://www.nei.nih.gov.
