Melles Griot Optics Group promoted Charles E. Synborski to the position of general manager, according to a company press release.
Mr. Synborski has been with Melles Griot for 5 years, most recently as director of marketing and sales for the optics group.
Melles Griot Optics Group also appointed David E. Smith as vice president of global initiatives, according to a company press release.
For over 15 years, Mr. Smith worked for Melles Griot Optical Group, most recently as vice president and general manager. Tactical planning and implementation for key global initiatives constitute his new role.
CIBA Vision has appointed George Minno, PhD, as its global head of lens care research and development, according to a company press release.
Dr. Minno came to CIBA Vision from Alimera Sciences Inc, where he was vice president of product development. Prior to Alimera Sciences, he worked for CIBA Vision and Novartis Ophthalmics for approximately 9 years in various technical and marketing positions. Additionally, he had research and development positions with Bausch & Lomb and Alcon Laboratories.
Prevent Blindness America announced winners for the 2005 Investigator Awards, grants given to research projects dedicated to eye health.
The winners are Joshua D. Stein, MD, from Duke University, Stephen G. Schwartz, MD, from University of Miami, and Suzen M. Moeller, PhD, from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Essilor of America Inc. announced that Tim Gentry has been named vice president and controller, according to a company press release.
Mr. Gentry will be responsible for reporting the company’s transaction processing activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, credit and risk management. He most recently served as corporate controller at Darling International. He replaces Kathy Rismiller, who is vice president of business analysis.
The results of the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society (OOSS) 2005 election were announced at its April meeting in Washington, D.C., according to a press release.
The winners are President William J. Fishkind, MD; Vice President Paul S. Koch, MD; Secretary-Treasurer Paul N. Arnold, MD, FACS; and Immediate Past President Jerome H. Levy, MD.
