PARIS — A modified Cionni ring makes IOL implantation easy and safe in cases of zonulysis or other problems requiring stabilization of the bag during microincision cataract surgery.

"Our modification allows the implantation of the ring through a small 1.8-mm incision," Boris Malyugin, MD, said at the meeting of the French Society of Ophthalmology.

The ring is originally structured with three loops. In Dr. Malyugin's modification, the last segment and loop are eliminated.

"This modification allows us to implant the ring with an injector through a small incision," he said.
