SAN FRANCISCO — Michael W. Brennan, MD, has assumed the presidency of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, according to a press release from the organization. Dr. Brennan officially took office on Jan. 1, replacing outgoing president David W. Parke II, MD, who completed his term last month.

During his tenure with the Academy, Dr. Brennan served as secretary for state affairs on the committee of secretaries and as the Academy's international envoy. He has also held posts on the membership advisory committee, the awards committee and the task force on federal health manpower, the release said.

Currently, Dr. Brennan is in private practice at the Alamance Eye Center in Burlington, N.C.
