Median income decreases for ophthalmologists

Medical compensation and gross productivity declined for ophthalmologists during 2002, according to a report published in The Washington Post. While several medical specialties saw increases in median income during 2002, ophthalmology was not among them, according to the report, which cited a study conducted by the American Medical Group Association.

Ophthalmologists saw an average 2.31% decline in compensation during 2002, the report noted. Pediatrics and pathology saw even larger declines in compensation.

The study found that radiologists and otolaryngologists had the largest increases in salary, according to the report.
