SANTA ANA, Calif. — James V. Mazzo, the current president and chief executive officer of Advanced Medical Optics, has been appointed chairman, the company announced in a press release.

Mr. Mazzo’s appointment follows the decision by William R. Grant, the company’s former chairman, to step down. Mr. Grant had served as chairman since AMO’s spin-off from Allergan in 2002. Mr. Mazzo has been the company’s president and CEO since the spin-off, and is a current director of the company.
