A review of 10 years’ worth of records of Taiwanese children found that epithelial tumors and dermoid cysts were the most common types of eyelid tumors, while malignant tumors were rare.

Huan-Chen Hsu, MD, and Hsiu-Fen Lin, of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, retrospectively studied 78 patients who had presented with eyelid tumors from 1991 to 2000. The four most common tumors were epidermal cysts (23.1%), dermoid cysts (17.9%), squamous cell papillomas (11.5%) and compound nevi (9%). In one case a ductal cyst recurred after surgical excision.

The study is published in Ophthalmologica.
