Loteprednol effective for allergy over long term, study finds
Loteprednol etabonate 0.2% is a safe, topical steroid when used on a long-term basis for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis, according to a study.
Haroon Ilyas, MD, and colleagues at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa reviewed the charts of 397 patients treated for either seasonal or perennial allergic conjunctivitis who were on long-term loteprednol etabonate therapy. Slit-lamp findings and IOP measurements were taken during follow-up exams to determine any adverse effects of the therapy.
Continuous use of loteprednol for more than 12 months was reported by 159 of the patients.
None of the patients reported any adverse events. Total drop use ranged from 120 drops per eye to 3,741 drops per eye.
