Lighthouse International offering new kit for people with vision loss

Lighthouse International recently released a new kit for consumer patients with low vision that is designed to help such patients create safe and comfortable homes to aid their daily function.

The kit, called Living Better at Home: A Guide for People with Vision Loss, includes basic information on eye diseases, treatments and vision rehabilitation as well as tips about daily living for those who are visually impaired, according to a press release from the organization.

Online video and lessons also provide information on how to cook safely, while an itemized list offers suggestions for laying out and labeling various appliances and rooms in a home. Additionally, the kit includes a bold writing pen and touch dots for such labeling.

The kit is supported by an education grant from Genentech and is being distributed to a variety of organizations and libraries as part of a larger effort to educate Americans on eye care and vision loss.

Additional information, including how to request a copy of the kit, is available at www.lighthouse.org/livingbetter.
