Lens has 'excellent' results at 5 years postop
A study found that the Artiflex lens induces less astigmatism and has a faster recuperation after surgery compared with the Artisan lens, but it has fewer variables of correction power.
At the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting in Barcelona, Camille Budo, MD, compared the correction of myopia of the Artisan and Artiflex lenses, both from Ophtec, in patients with 5 years of follow-up.
"With Artiflex, you can guarantee to the patient that the day after surgery, the results are excellent. With Artisan, sometimes it may induce astigmatism, and patients need to be seen 5 to 6 weeks after surgery for follow-up care," Dr. Budo said.
Postoperative endothelial cell counts were similar for the two lenses.
Because Artiflex lenses are only currently available to correct myopia between 2 D and 14.5 D, Artisan lenses are used to treat high degrees of myopia, Dr. Budo said.
