WASHINGTON, D.C. — TrueVision 3D Surgical and Leica Microsystems announced an agreement that will allow key components of TrueVision's digital visualization and guidance platform to be integrated with some Leica surgical products.

The combination of TrueVision's real-time, stereoscopic 3-D high-definition visualization system for microsurgery and Leica's surgical microscopes will allow for improved display of the surgical field on a flat-panel 3-D screen in the operating room, according to a news release.

"Leica adds significant distribution and technology resources to our current sales effort globally and accelerates commercialization of the TrueVision brand in 3-D computer-aided surgery," TrueVision CEO Forrest Fleming said in the release.

The agreement calls for the companies to co-market the products under the Leica brand name and to work together on more projects to allow for better combinations of the companies' optical and digital technologies.

"TrueVision products are a great add-on to our product portfolio," Silvio Bracone, vice president of the Medical Division of Leica, said. "We are very excited to cooperate and drive superior technology in the OR."
