Led by sales growth in emerging markets, Essilor posts 6.3% increase in revenue for 2009

CHARENTON-LE-PONT, France Essilor International reported consolidated revenue of 3.27 billion for 2009, representing a 6.3% increase from 3.07 billion for 2008, the company announced in a press release.
According to the release, Essilor's 2009 fiscal results reflected a minor increase in unit sales in established countries, while unit sales rose drastically in emerging markets.
Specifically, revenue for North America operations fell 0.4% on a like-for-like basis. Revenue in Europe declined 2.7% despite positive performances for the company's operations in France, Germany and Italy, as well as the company's instruments division, which reported progress in Russia and Finland.
Revenue for the Asia-Pacific region rose 12.3% to 344.7 million, led by increased sales of specialty lenses and new products in India, China and South Korea, as well as increased demand for the company's Varilux and Crizal lines in Australia, according to the release.
Revenue in Latin America grew by 7% to 134 million, led by sales of anti-reflective lenses in Brazil and Mexico.
For the full-year 2010, Essilor expects revenue to improve gradually and plans to intensify its strategy to increase its market share through new product launches, geographic expansion and acquisitions.
