AMSTERDAM — Physicians attending this year's XIX Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, to be held here Sept. 1 - 5, 2001, also have an opportunity to participate in a refractive surgery symposium and dinner reception Sept. 1.

"New approaches to refractive surgery: LASIK, lenses & more" includes a session on LASIK technique and trends by course director Richard L. Lindstrom, MD. Y. Ralph Chu, MD, will address the significance of nasal hinges versus superior hinges in his session on the microkeratome. Richard Packard, MD, will discuss low heat, low energy, low turbulence, bimanual phaco and cold phaco during his session on clear lens removal. Thomas Kohnen, MD, will tackle targeting emmetropia in his presentation.

Other sessions include an overview of phakic IOLs, from Stéphane Ganem, MD, monofocal IOLs from H. Burkhard Dick, MD, and multifocal IOLs from Kevin Waltz, OD, MD.

The educational symposium will also offer potential solutions for presbyopic patients and discuss how to match patients to refractive procedures. The seminar is free of charge, but does require seating reservations. Click here to register.

The symposium is supported by an educational grant from Allergan and is organized by Ocular Surgery News.
