Laser interferometry may calculate IOL power

Laser interferometry may be a feasible and accurate way to calculate IOL power in some silicone oil-filled eyes, according to a study.

Hooshang Faghihi Habibabadi, MD, and colleagues studied 13 silicone oil-filled eyes of 12 patients to evaluate the refractive outcome of the oil removal and IOL implantation via laser interferometry. Postoperative refraction was evaluated.

The mean deviation of the final postop refraction was –0.3 D at 12 weeks. Mean axial length was 22.99 mm. No major complications occurred intraoperatively or postop.

The study is published in Retina.
