Konan Medical launches series of specular microscopes
NEW ORLEANS — Konan Medical USA launched a series of specular microscopes designed to count central endothelial cells and study their characteristics at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.
The basic Cellchek microscope images the central corneal zone, analyzes cell morphology and cell density, and has a non-contact pachymetry function, according to company literature.
The Cellchek SP includes a separate computer and database as well as a full and semi-automated analysis function. The computer and software can reduce exam and assessment time to less than 30 minutes and help the operator assess key endothelial parameters and follow patients.
The Cellchek XL includes a computer, a database and five fixation points — central and four peripheral targets that offer a more thorough image of the cornea. It marks the site on the cornea that was photographed. "This is valuable when you wish to return to the same location on the cornea after surgery for sequential follow-up," according to company literature.
The Cellchek EB is designed specifically for use in eye banks. The device's "Center Method" analysis tool is designed to analyze cell morphology and density. The operator may mark 50 or more cells on the photograph, and the device automatically calculates cell density.
