Ketorolac has little effect on consecutive hyperopia post-LASIK

Ketorolac does not improve consecutive hyperopia after LASIK for myopia and compound myopic astigmatism when compared with a matched control group, according to a study.

Naazli M. Shaikh, MD, and colleagues at the Henry Ford Health Systems in Troy, Mich., analyzed data from 72 eyes of 51 patients who had undergone LASIK and experienced consecutive hyperopia of at least +0.5 D within the first postoperative week. Of the patients, 37 were treated with ketorolac and followed for 2 months; the remaining 35 were followed only.

The mean start time for ketorolac treatment was 9 days postop. Mean treatment time was 24.5 days, with a range of 10 to 63 days. On average, treated patients were 9 years older than those in the control group.

No significant difference in the overall rate of regression between the two groups existed during the follow-up period.

The study is published in the May issue of Cornea.
