Kensaku Miyake, MD, will give ASCRS 2006 Innovators Lecture
FAIRFAX, Va. — Kensaku Miyake, MD, will deliver the Charles D. Kelman Innovators Lecture at next year’s meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
ASCRS announced the selection of Dr. Miyake in a press release, noting that the lecture “honors an individual whose innovative ideas have benefited ophthalmologists and their patients.”
In his lecture, Dr. Miyake will discuss the application of a newly developed, highly sensitive camera and three-dimensional high-definition television system in ophthalmic surgery, the ASCRS press release said.
The combination of devices “not only allows surgeries to be performed and lower intensities of operating light to be used, but also provides real-time highly sensitive 3-D images identical to those observed by the surgeon,” the ASCRS release said.
Dr. Miyake is the chief medical editor of Ocular Surgery News Japan Edition and is a founding editor of Ocular Surgery News Europe/Asia-Pacific Edition. He has presented more than 10 named lectures and counts among his awards the Japanese Medical Association’s Supreme Award of Merit.
