January is Glaucoma Awareness Month, according to the National Eye Institute and other organizations.

Throughout the month of January, organizations in the National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) Partnership will try to increase the public’s awareness of glaucoma. Member organizations will stress the importance of undergoing a dilated eye exam at least once every 2 years for those at high risk for developing the disease.

The U.S. campaign is sponsored by the NEHEP Partnership, leading public and private organizations that are members of NEHEP, which is coordinated by the National Eye Institute.

The NEI has developed a resource guide for eye care professionals. The materials can be ordered by calling the NEI at (800) 869-2020 or by downloading the online form at http://www.nei.nih.gov/gam/welcome.htm
