IntraVista unveils LED slit lamp light source

SAN FRANCISCO — IntraVista Medical Systems introduced its new Vivid Light LED slit lamp light source here at the joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology.

Available in AC, DC and strobe models that may be inserted into the tungsten lamp holder, the Vivid Light emits high-intensity, high-quality natural light for enhanced viewing of the anterior and posterior segments, according to product literature from IntraVista.

The new Vivid Light eliminates the emisssion of infrared and ultraviolet radiation and decreases short wavelength photochemical radiation by 50%, the literature said. In addition the LED light source's green technology provides long-term cost effectiveness, consuming 90% less power than tungsten bulbs.

The Vivid Light LED light source has not yet received written approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
