IRVINE, Calif. — Revenues for IntraLase in the fourth quarter of 2004 increased 85% to $19.2 million from the fourth quarter of 2003, the company announced in a press release. In 2004 the company placed for sale or lease 37 of its FS lasers, compared with 26 during the same quarter the previous year, the company said.

Sales of per-procedure disposable patient interface units nearly doubled in the quarter from the year-ago period, the company noted, to 52,000.

Robert Palmisano, president and chief executive officer of IntraLase, said in the press release that more than 40% of the company’s laser revenues were attributable to installations in Europe, Asia and other markets outside the United States. The company’s share of the U.S. corneal flap market grew to 16%, the release noted.

For the full year 2004, revenues increased to $60 million from $25.4 million in 2003.

Regarding 2005, the company anticipates that its U.S. market will grow in the range of 6% to 8% for the year, and that “the company’s revenues will rise at a far faster rate as it continues to win market share away from microkeratome-based corneal flap procedures and further accelerates its installation of femtosecond lasers throughout the world,” IntraLase said in its release.
