Target Audience: The intended learners for this activity are ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with ophthalmic disorders.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity participants should be able to:
- Analyze recent epidemiologic studies of changing susceptibility among pathogens encountered in routine ocular care and describe new anti-infective strategies for treatment.
- Analyze recommendations from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery regarding the perioperative use of antibiotic prophylaxis for the prevention of endophthalmitis.
- Discuss the rationale for perioperative use of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to treat the ocular surface and decrease the risk of postsurgical infection and inflammation to improve patient outcomes.

To participate in this CME activity, you must read the objectives, answer the Pretest questions, watch and listen to the presentations, complete the Posttest, and complete the evaluation. Provide only one (1) correct answer for each question. A satisfactory score is defined as answering 3 out of 4 of the Posttest questions correctly. Upon receipt of the completed materials, if a satisfactory score on the Posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM certificate.
