CHINO HILLS, Calif. Hoya Surgical Optics has entered into a strategic partnership with Swiss accommodating IOL developer Adoptics to develop a novel, shape-changing IOL, Hoya announced in a press release.
The Adoptics accommodating IOL uses a proprietary fluid-based refraction system to adjust its form with the movement of the ciliary muscles, mimicking the natural accommodation process of the eye. The Adoptics lens does not require movement of the optic to change refractive power, the release said.
"Hoya recognizes the significant impact that the proprietary [accommodating IOL] technology will have in addressing both the presbyopic and myopic challenges of patients with cataracts," Tom Dunlap, president and CEO of Hoya Surgical Optics, said in the release. "We believe the shape-changing [accommodating IOL] is the most efficient and consistent way to provide the power range necessary for true accommodation and to achieve spectacle-free vision for many patients."
