Hoya introduces first preloaded IOL injector to U.S. market
CHINO HILLS, Calif. Hoya Surgical Optics has introduced the first preloaded IOL injector to be sold in the United States.
According to a Hoya press release, the iSert Preloaded Intraocular Lens Injection System is designed to prevent lens damage and contamination and to enable small-incision surgery.
The iSert's bevel tip is designed to enable injection of an IOL through an incision smaller than 2.4 mm. The injector may be used to inject Hoya's hydrophobic acrylic aspheric lenses, the release said.
Preloaded lenses are completely enclosed from manufacture to implantation, preventing toxic anterior segment syndrome and other forms of contamination stemming from reusable materials and inadequate sterilization, the release said.
The iSert can be prepared for use in the operating room in about 15 seconds, enhancing efficiency and patient safety, the release said.
