AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Hi-Tech Pharmacal's abbreviated new drug application for dorzolamide hydrochloride and timolol maleate ophthalmic solution, the company announced in a press release.

Hi-Tech's dorzolamide and timolol solution is the generic equivalent of Merck's Cosopt ophthalmic solution and is indicated for reducing elevated IOP in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Hi-Tech plans to launch the solution immediately.
