VISTA, Calif. — Heidelberg Engineering has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Spectralis age-adjusted retinal nerve fiber layer thickness normative database for assessing risk and managing the progression of glaucoma, the company announced.

The Spectralis database, which is part of Heidelberg's new Spectralis Version 5.3 software suite, offers Heidelberg's FoDi fovea-to-disc alignment software and posterior pole asymmetry analysis, as well as TruTrack active eye tracking for optimized image detail and precise measurements.

Heidelberg plans to present its Spectralis software package at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting and to begin shipping units shortly thereafter.
