SAN DIEGO — Priced lower, and upgradeable, the new Spectralis OCT imaging device is now available from Heidelberg. The Spectralis OCT has both spectral domain OCT and an infrared mode.

The new model also has features of the expanded version, Spectralis HRA+OCT, such as the ability to scan the retina 40,000 times per second, eye-tracking technology and Heidelberg Noise Reduction technology which improves image clarity.

"We designed the new Spectralis OCT in response to requests from clinicians at smaller eye care practices who wanted an imaging system that could grow with their practice. Spectralis OCT offers the flexibility to upgrade later," Adam Doherty, product manager, said in a company press release.

Heidelberg's Spectralis line also includes Spectralis HRA and the Spectralis HRA+OCT.

"These are exciting times for eye care professionals — these new imaging devices provide reliable data that our predecessors never imagined," said Scott Cousins, MD, retinal specialist and Director of the Duke Center of Macular Diseases at the Duke Eye Center, in the Heidelberg press release.
